CPSIA of 2008
|
We hope this letter touches, inspires and motivates you… Into action!
Dear NBVA Member, As one of the 150 business members of the National Bulk Vendors Association, you are going to be asked in this letter to give some money. We are going to break tradition by asking each member to donate exactly the same amount. In the distant past, when the association needed money it called on a few to give a lot. Things have changed and now your association is asking for a little from the many.
We could go into a long and detailed explanation of why this financial need is directly tied to you and your business, and we will, but not in this letter. If you go to www.NBVA.org you will find all the details explaining the How, What, Why, When and Where’s of the CPSIA law of 2008 and the specifics about section 103 and labeling.
That’s right, labeling. We must let the policy makers in Washington know that it is just not possible to include the bulk vending industry in the current CPSIA tracking label law. Through your support last year of our Washington initiative, we were able to secure a “Statement of Policy” from the Consumer Product Safety Commission that the tracking label requirement of the CPSIA law does not apply to bulk vended toys and other products. But this is just a temporary measure and could change at any time, through a new agency policy, state attorney general enforcement or through the actions of major retailers.
As this letter is being written, Congress is considering changes to the CPSIA, possibly including making it explicit that bulk vended products do not have to have tracking labels. This bill could move at any time and is expected to move quickly when it does. We must keep up the pressure on the Congress and the CPSC to make sure tracking labels to not have to be on such products. Any other outcome could spell disaster for our industry.
How can you help? We need three more months in Washington, D.C. We do this with our Attorneys and money. An agreement was reached between our Executive Committee and our law firm representing our 150 Business members. The new agreement starting 6-01-10 allows the NBVA to keep our representatives in the final stages of a long and complicated fight. “At half the original price per month”. We don’t have the money in the general fund to finance the three months!
Respectfully, Your not for profit NBVA |
